The Fayne Daniels Walkathon, held on a sunny September 13th at the Pavilion at Lakeside Park, saw more than 100 community members participating to raise funds for the Pawling Resource Center. The well-marked trail provided a delightful early fall walk for event participants, followed by a return to the pavilion for music, food, prizes and games. This after-the-walk party was a celebration of community support that has allowed this organization to grow and serve neighbors in need for almost 50 years.
This year, two popular food trucks, I’Guana Tacos and Frozen Fun Ice Cream, were on hand to feed the hungry crowd. Music was provided by Teri Lamar’s Playing Mantis, one of the area’s best Rock cover bands, helping to create the fun party vibe to this celebratory event. Pups in attendance received their puppy goodies, while children played with bubbles and plenty of fun games to keep them happily busy.
Through sponsorships, grants, and record-breaking numbers of walkers, the PRC surpassed its funding goals, raising more than $47,000 in support of its mission. Dedicated walkers and teams fundraised on the PRC’s behalf, with The Lost Hikers of Pawling and Jayne Violon winning prizes for the most dollars raised, each receiving a beautiful basket of gourmet treats from The Blue Olive. Mayor Lauri Taylor won the 50/50 raffle and generously donated her winnings to the PRC.
Funds raised will help to keep food pantry shelves stocked, support transportation services for our seniors, and provide the many additional services on which PRC families, children and seniors have come to rely. Michael Alexander, PRC executive director, expressed gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support at this year’s event. “The 18th annual Fayne Daniels Walkathon was a resounding success, thanks to the incredible support of our community. From volunteers to sponsors to every participant who walked with purpose, this event showcased the heart of PRC. Together, we’ve raised vital funds and awareness to continue serving our neighbors in need,” he remarked.
This year’s event was chaired by board vice-chair Jennifer Taylor. The events committee, made up of PRC board members and executive director Michael Alexander, included board chair Mario Mejorado and John Rickert, Rev. Stefan Gramenz, Halliday Clark, Liz Allen, Keith Tucci, and Susan Stone. PRC program coordinator Brandon Dobaj and PRC volunteers were vital to its planning and execution.
Support from sponsors was a critical component to the success of the PRC’s fundraising efforts. Sponsors of the 18th annual Fayne Daniels Walkathon included NFP; Monahan Laighton Memorial Fund; the Pawling Resource Center Board of Directors; Madeo Multimedia; Westchester Modular Homes; Orange County BMW; Pawling Corporation; AMAXX INC.; Ingersoll Auto of Pawling; Elizabeth Allen; Freville Farm; George Apap Painting; Dutchess Auto Body & Service Center; Valerie Busby; Chase Bank; Key Bank; PCSB; M&T Bank; Pawling Vintage Emporium; Castagna Realty; George Hartshorn Paving; The Mersand family; Crystal Window & Door; Edison's Cleaners; Friends of Sheriff Kirk Imperati; Native Landscapes; Coast 2 Coast Dog Treats; The Shed Haus; The Law Office of Patricia Rusch Bellucci, PLLC; Thomsen Bookkeeping & Office Solutions; Byron's Patterson Auto Body; Rocco’s Family Restaurant & Pizzeria; Raymond Opticians; Vinny's Deli; Pawling Lions Club; Twadell Consulting, LLC; and Mizzentop Day School.
