A beautiful, sunny autumn day awaited walkers at the PRC Walkathon as Resource Center Executive Director Olga Brandenberg and Program Coordinator Brandon Dobraj welcomed the community to participate in this annual event. In this, the major fundraiser of this much-loved community non-profit, money was raised for the Center’s transportation services, which support Pawling’s seniors as they attend medical appointments, shop for groceries at Hannaford’s and the Center’s food pantry, and receive food deliveries at home. With gas prices soaring, the funds raised this year will be put to immediate use.
After the “Walk So They May Ride” event, walkers and families were treated to a barbecue on the grounds of the John Kane House, with lively music provided by DJ Frank Gueits. As in previous years, walkers who brought their pups received bow-wow treat bags for their four-legged friends.
Prizes were given to the team of walkers and to the individual walker who raised the most money for the PRC. This year, the first-place team prize of a basket of useful and fun items went to The Lost Hikers of Pawling, and Pastor Stefan Gramenz won the basket for first-place individual walker.
