January 31st was a busy day at the PRC, when 13 students from Trinity-Pawling School volunteered their time and youthful energy to clear the shelves at the PRC and place product into temporary storage so that new flooring, provided by a generous grant from the Pawling Community Foundation, could be installed. The area in which new flooring can now be found services the PRC’s food pantry.  Student volunteers Alejandro Chavez, Hunter Baran, Ryan Wallace, AJ Halpy, Jack Lashlee, Nicholas McAvoy, Dominic (Dom) Zani, Jackson Crisp, Sacha Vasquez, Yeong Jun Kwak, Nolan Watts, Junsoo (Jack) Kim, and Charles Engelhardt could not have been more helpful and professional in their mission.  The whole operation required that the food pantry was non-operational for only a day and a half, at which time the students returned to reshelve the food pantry supply.

New shelving in the area housing the recently-purchased refrigerators and freezers, which were also made possible through a Community Foundation grant last year, took a bit more time to install.  The reconfigured shelving will provide more storage space for healthy food choices that will be more easily accessible by food pantry clients.

The new flooring, a premium oak vinyl plank, was purchased from and installed by Kenny’s Carpet One in Carmel, New York.  The application method employed a high-performance adhesive system, ensuring optimal durability and longevity.  The new flooring is easy to clean and stain-resistant, which is the perfect underfoot solution for the high-traffic areas in the PRC food pantry.

PRC Executive Director Michael Alexander commented that he was thrilled with this much-needed improvement, sharing, “Thanks to the Pawling Community Foundation's generous grant, our new flooring is a foundation for improved efficiency and well-being for all who use the PRC food pantry. We are deeply grateful.”
