The 17th annual Pawling Resource Center’s Fayne Daniels Walk So They May Ride Walk-a-Thon is scheduled for September 14th, at a new location . . . the pavilion at Lakeside Park, and families with pups are encouraged to participate. Individual walkers and teams are raising funds in support of the Resource Center’s transportation program, a signature offering from this valuable community resource.
The team that raises the most money for the PRC will receive a grand prize that will be shared among team members. A prize will also be awarded to the individual walker who raises the most in support of the PRC mission to help community members in need. The Fayne Daniels Walk So They May Ride event is the PRC’s major annual fundraiser.
Sign-in on the day of the event begins is at 10:00 a.m. Walking commences at 11:00 with the route clearly marked by the walk-a-thon planning team. Following the walk, all participants and sponsors are invited to participate in a “Thank You for Your Support” box lunch picnic at the Lakeside Park pavilion. Blankets and lawn chairs optional! Music will entertain and prizes will be awarded.
Support for this crucial fundraiser in 2023 has not only provided the dollars necessary to purchase a new, much-needed vehicle for the transportation program, but has also financed 90 rides for grocery shopping and provided elderly neighbors access to medical care 420 times! Food deliveries to those who are homeboundhave seen a 31% increase in demand, with 284 deliveries made within the last twelve months. These numbers continue to grow annually.
Olga Brandenberger, Executive Director of the PRC, was eager to express her enthusiasm for this important community event. She remarked, “As we enter our 17th year for our recently renamed Fayne Daniels Annual Walk So They May Ride Walk-a-Thon, I would like to share that it is more than just a fundraiser—it's a lifeline to many of our community's older population. Imagine lacking a reliable way to access crucial medical care, or simply needing food delivered or desiring to go to the local Hannaford store to select your own food, but unable to do so for lack of available transportation. Thanks to the funds raised with the support of our amazing community, the Pawling Resource Center can provide these vital services. Beyond providing rides and meals, the PRC brings hope and human connection. Our seniors are reminded that they are not alone, and that a caring community surrounds them, ready to support them through their journey and allowing them to feel valued, loved, and remembered. All of us at the PRC, staff and volunteers alike, are looking forward to a community-wide celebration on September 14th as we walk in support of making a difference in their lives.”
