News From the Pawling Resource Center

By Susan Stone

Good news!  The PRC was the “Charity of the Month” in February for Town Square Pizza in Patterson, owned by Sauro’s Deli. Each month they donate a portion of their proceeds from the sale of pizza to a different organization. Terry Ariano, the PRC’s Program Coordinator, received a check for $1020!  “Thanks to the generosity of Sauro’s and to all of the pizza eaters in the area!  This month the Rotary’s Interact Club will be the recipients, so if you’ve got an urge for delicious pizza, please support their cause!”

Easter Baskets are being readied for distribution.  Bette Slocum, longtime volunteer, board member and supporter of the PRC spearheads the holiday basket project. The baskets will be distributed the week before Easter to children of client families of the PRC, and include small stuffed animals, some goodies, games and activity books.  Adults who have been brought to the attention of the PRC through friends or clergy, who are experiencing medical difficulties or who are  homebound receive the PRC’s Sunshine Baskets.  The gift basket project has been a staple of the PRC’s for more than fifteen years.

A representative from Catholic Charities will now come to the PRC once a month to help those who are qualified apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SNAP is a service that assists low income working families as well as seniors and the disabled to put “…nutritious food on the table.”  Call Terry with any questions about this at  855-3459.

The Pawling Resource Center will now be able to make referrals for the “Dress for Success” and the Career Center of Dutchess County.  If you have a job interview coming up and need that all important interview suit, you can now receive a referral to this program through the PRC. The Dress for Success program provides stylish and interview appropriate business wear at no or low cost, along with appropriate accessories.  In fact, a personal stylist will help you put together a great ensemble that will be sure to impress.  The Dress for Success Boutique provides interview clothing for both men and women. Additionally, The Career Center can offer valuable information about what to expect at the interview and how to make the best impression during that all important first meeting.  Dress for Success Dutchess County and the Career Center are located in Poughkeepsie and can only be accessed through referral. Once again, contact Terry at the PRC to find out more!

The PRC Food Bank is exploring ways in which it may be able to assist clients in need who are homebound.  Stay tuned for more info on this as details become available.
